Option One: Jotham’s Journey

TARGET AUDIENCE

Kindergarten and up

This is a personal favorite from my childhood growing up.  I hope it becomes a favorite in your family, too.  -Mrs. Mindy

HOW IT WORKS

Beginning on the first night of Advent, Sunday, December 2, your family will read a section of Jotham’s story and see how his story intertwined with the Christmas story.

DESCRIPTION

Over and over Jotham screamed for his family, but there was no one to hear him. They had vanished. He was alone. Where had they gone? How long ago had they left? Through quick, stabbing sobs Jotham told himself, “I must look for my family, I must search until I find them.” And so his journey begins. In this widely popular, exciting story for the Advent season, readers follow ten-year-old Jotham across Israel as he searches for his family. Though he faces thieves, robbers, and kidnappers, Jotham also encounters the wise men, shepherds, and innkeepers until at last he finds his way to the Savior born in Bethlehem.

Option Two: The Jesus Storybook Bible

TARGET AUDIENCE

Nursery and up

HOW IT WORKS

There are 24 stories up to and including the Christmas stories. So, start on the first of December and read one every day leading up to Christmas morning. Or, begin on the first Sunday of Advent, December 2. If you begin on Advent, you will read the story of the wisemen on Christmas Day.

DESCRIPTION

The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the story beneath all the stories in the Bible. Every story whispers his name. At the center of all is a baby, the child upon whom everything will depend. From Noah, to Moses, to the great King David—every story points to him. He is the missing piece to the puzzle—the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle.
